Covid-19 Notice: High Court Criminal Proceedings and Applications

Due to the imposition of the current Covid-19 level 5 restrictions, the advice from NPHET concerning the projected rate of infection in the community over the coming weeks and other relevant Covid-19 information, it has been decided that no new jury trials will commence before the 1st February 2021 and those listed for hearing prior to that date will be adjourned. The safety of resuming criminal trials on the 1st February will be reviewed again on the 26th January. Updated notices will thereafter appear in the Legal Diary and on the Courts Service Website.

Notwithstanding the introduction of Level 5 restrictions, any jury trial presently at hearing will continue to conclusion, subject to strict compliance with public health guidance and the Court’s own guidance on face coverings.

The following work will continue as normal, subject to weekly review and strict compliance with public health guidance and the Court’s own guidance on face coverings.

  1. Sentencing hearings;
  2. Pre-trial disclosure and case management hearings.

Special Criminal Court.

No new trials will commence in the Special Criminal Court before the 1st February 2021 and those listed for hearing prior to that date will be adjourned. The safety of resuming criminal trials on the 1st February will be reviewed on the 26th January next. Updated notices will thereafter appear in the Legal Diary and on the Courts Service Website.
