Right to lodge a complaint about the use of your personal data by or on behalf of a court acting in a judicial capacity
The Data Protection Commission (DPC) is generally responsible for supervising and enforcing data protection law in Ireland. However, the DPC’s functions do not extend to the processing of personal data by courts when they are acting in a judicial capacity.
Under Section 157 of the Data Protection Act 2018, a judge assigned by the Chief Justice acts as the supervisory authority for data processing operations of courts when acting in their judicial capacity.
How to make a complaint
If you believe your personal data has been processed by or on behalf of a court in a way that infringes data protection law, you may submit a complaint to the Assigned Judge.
The Assigned Judge will consider your complaint and, if it falls within their functions under the Data Protection Act 2018, will deal with it accordingly.
