Supreme Court hosts visit from delegation of Judges from Ukraine
On the morning of 8 December, the Supreme Court of Ireland hosted a short visit of members of the Ukrainian judiciary as part of an all-island visit organised by Irish Rule of Law International (IRLI) in partnership with the EU Advisory Mission Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine) and the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs. The delegation was met by Mr Justice O’Donnell, Chief Justice, Ms Justice Costello, President of the Court of Appeal, and Mr Justice Collins and Mr Justice Hogan of the Supreme Court.
The visit by seven Ukrainian judges builds on previous Ukrainian judicial exchanges facilitated by IRLI and EUAM Ukraine, and was the beginning of a five-day programme across Dublin and Belfast. The visit enabled direct engagement between the Ukrainian delegation and Irish and Northern Irish judges, academics, and international legal experts.
Across five days, the delegation visited courts, held judicial roundtables, and participated in focused working sessions. In Belfast, the judges met the Lady Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, Dame Siobhán Keegan, who is co-patron of Irish Rule of Law International. The delegation also visited the courts and engaged with members of the Northern Ireland judiciary.
