Supreme Court welcomes visiting delegation from Estonia

President Kelly of the District Court co-hosted the delegation from Estonia

 

On 28 January, the Supreme Court welcomed a visiting delegation from Estonia to Dublin on a study visit.  The delegation included the Chief Justice of Estonia, Justice Villu Kõve, a Justice of the Supreme Court, three Judges of the District and Administrative Courts of Estonia, and senior staff of the Estonian Ministry of Justice. The visit was co-hosted by the Supreme Court and the President of the District Court, President Paul Kelly.  

 

The purpose of the visit was predominantly the exchange of ideas on the administration and modernisation of court systems and operations in Europe as well as to learn about the Irish legal syatem.  On 29 January, the Estonian delegation spent a day in the Criminal Courts of Justice on Parkgate St where they met with Judges of the District Court and members of the courthouse staff who shared their experiences of courthouse operations.  The delegation also heard from members of the centralised Courts Service staff on matters of staffing, resourcing, digitalisation and modernisation efforts in Irish courtrooms.
