Your right to data protection

Your right to data protection

Article 8 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights states:

  1. Everyone has the right to the protection of personal data concerning them.
  2. Such data must be processed fairly for specified purposes and on the basis of the person’s consent or another legitimate basis laid down by law. Everyone has the right to access data that has been collected about them, and the right to have it corrected.
  3. Compliance with these rules must be monitored by an independent authority.

This means every individual has the right to have their personal information:

  • Protected from misuse,
  • Used fairly and lawfully, and
  • Made available to them on request.

If you believe your personal information is inaccurate, you have the right to request that it be corrected.

The sections below provide detailed information on your individual rights under data protection law and explain how you can exercise these rights.
