Published on 7 July 2025, the Courts Service Annual Report 2024 highlights a modernising, ever-busy courts system, with Government backing to expand the judiciary and improve timely access to justice. Operationally, 165 courtrooms are now video-enabled and 95% of charge sheets are processed electronically, contributing to fewer cancellations and smoother throughput. Activity rose—390,158 new criminal matters (+6.3%) and nearly 184,000 new civil cases—while higher-court backlogs eased and personal-injury awards fell by over 45% year-on-year.
