Notes on application types

Solicitor applications

These are applications for Grants of Representation that have been lodged through a solicitor’s firm.

Please note that applications will be returned in their entirety without full assessment if the applicant has:

  • No title and/or if title is set out incorrectly, or
  • If the application contains three or more queries.

Personal applications

Applications made directly by members of the public. There is currently a 10–12 week waiting time for appointments with the Probate Office in Dublin. Find out more about what to expect at your appointment in the step-by-step guide to applying for probate.

Copy requests – before September 2018

These are applications for a copy of Wills and Grants issued before September 2018.

These take longer because older records are stored off-site. You can find the copy request form and the relevant fees for copies.

Copy requests – after September 2018

These are applications for a copy of Wills and Grants issued after September 2018.

These are processed more quickly because records are stored on-site. You can find the copy request form and the fees for copies online.
